PCMC FAQ

What is Princeton Collegiate Moot Court?
Princeton Collegiate Moot Court (PCMC) is a student organization in which participants compete in simulated United States Supreme Court written and oral arguments. Members will read real case law, develop thoughtful legal arguments, and travel across the country to compete against other collegiate moot court teams.

Is Moot Court the same as Mock Trial?
Mock Trial is all about facts and evidence; thus, it is a largely performative endeavor. Moot Court, on the other hand, is exclusively about the law. Instead of being judged by the quality of performance, participants are judged solely by the weight of their arguments. Mock Trial attempts to simulate a trial court. Moot Court, however, replicates the sort of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court or federal appellate courts.

Is any experience required to join?
No experience is required to tryout for PCMC and we accept students of all skill and experience levels. For many people, this is their first time doing Moot Court (which is not a particularly common activity among high schoolers). If you don’t have any experience with Moot Court, don’t worry! We strongly value mentorship and coaching, and are looking primarily for analytical thinkers who are interested in the law.

How can I find out more?
If you’re interested in learning more about PCMC, please fill out our interest form to receive updates and information about the tryout process. At the start of each recruiting cycle, we will host an information session to provide further details about the organization and the club, as well as to answer any questions students may have. Moreover, feel free to stop by our tables at the annual Student Activities Fair or the Political Activities Fair.
